What this trip meant to me:

I went into this trip hoping to explore what it meant to be an Earth Human. I wanted to transcend being a blonde human, an American human, a female human, and learn what it meant to simply be human.

I hoped living with Indonesians and submerging myself in their culture would expand my perspective. And it did; I learnt a lot about human love, family, adversity, prejudice, and generosity. However, I also learned a lot about what it meant to be a blonde female American human, and that came from the group of American teenagers I was travelling with.

This trip meant expanding my family, beyond my blood, to encompass those similar and different from me, the only commonality between us all being humanity and shared love.
