Hello everyone! My name is Sam and I live the small seaside community of Manchester on the north shore of Massachusetts. I’ll be turning 19 tomorrow and will attend Bennington college in southern Vermont next fall where I will be in the Advancement of Public Action program.

At the beginning of my gap year I traveled solo to India where I participated in meditation retreat, wandered through the princely desert state of Rajasthan, and flew far north to visit Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and absorb the natural beauty in the high mountains of Ladakh. Since then, I’ve enjoyed spending time with friends and family over the holiday season, and have been restoring a VW Vanagon (dream car which I hope will be ready this summer), but I am now very excited to start the next part of the journey with all of you!

Some of my passions include guitar, backpacking/hiking, travel, history, learning about different cultures/ways of life, Buddhism, exercise, and spending time with friends and family. One day, I hope to be a grassroots activist focusing on the transition to an environmentally sustainable socio-economy, but I am also very passionate about promoting greater compassion in our society and between peoples and nations, development, education, and our polarized political environment. It’s my resolve to contribute, however little, to leaving the world a better place than how I found it.

I’m very excited about this particular dragon’s program as it entails many things I have a passion for. I’m eager to trek through the country, learn about Indonesian culture, religion, politics, and conservation issues, and make friends along the way! I look forward to meeting all of you, I know we are going to have an amazing time together! 🙂
