I have been in Indonesia for just over a week and although many sights, sounds, and experiences have been new and different I have been repeatedly surprised by how many little things remind me of home.
For me the little triggers that spark a memory or a feeling of home have allowed me to find comfort in an at times overwhelming place. These triggers have been anything from the smell of fertilizer, the bleat of a goat, a meal of eggs and potatoes, to the song “Leaving on a Jet Plane” sung with a local band.
All of these moments have helped me to embrace the newness of Indonesia and feel that no matter where I go, what I do, or who I meet, I will always carry home and those that I truly and deeply love with me.
Here’s to you, family.
