Some recent adventures

We’ve been in Nepal for exactly 30 days today. It’s been a jam-packed month of experiences and learning! Here are some recent adventures:

Anil Chitraker took us on a walking tour of Patan, pointing out many of the sites and history that had heretofore escaped our notice. He recently facilitated some networking and logistics for visits by Prince Harry, Morgan Freeman for his new show ‘The Story of God’, and Benedict Cumberbatch for Dr. Strange filming.

Jason Shah talked to our group about youth movements and attitudes in a somewhat traditional and heritage-filled area of Kathmandu. We ate at his cafe where food is inspired by traditional Nepali cuisine and walked around Patan together. Jason runs a number of ventures and organizations to encourage young Nepalis to travel and do cultural exchange.

We visited ICIMOD, an organization that assists the 8-countries of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region to develop mountain communities sustainably, and talked with Samden Lama Sherpa about some of the projects there, including economic incentives like growing shiitake mushrooms, producing eco-friendly bio-briquettes, and ecological farming.
