I’m Babette. I’m super sorry this is so late. I’m still in denial about the fact that I’m leaving home for 3 months the DAY AFTER TOMORROW, and I’m a MAJOR procrastinator, so it’s just a great combo all around.
I’m 19, and I graduated from high school last spring. In the fall I’ll be headed up to Dartmouth, but I wanted to take a year between high school and college to take a breather, rekindle my love for learning, and pursue new experiences that would help to increase my confidence in myself and my own capabilities.
I live in Cambridge, MA, with my mom and my dad, Ann and Ed, my sister, Elsa, (although she’s so busy with grad school that I rarely see her), two crazy dogs, Xena and Winnie, and the love of my life, my cat, Opal. I have another sister, Louisa, who’s at college in western MA, and I discovered Dragons through her (she took a Dragons trip to Nepal in the spring of 2015).
The biggest thing that I’ve done over the 8 months has been working front of house and interning on and off (usually off) at the Actors’ Shakespeare Project, a non-profit and performing arts company dedicated to getting Shakespeare and other works of great value into the lives of as many people as possible through education and play production. (If you can’t tell by now, I’m a MASSIVE Shakespeare geek. Let’s discuss.) I’ve also completely humiliated myself several times at BollyX, a Bollywood-inspired dance workout, taken a series of self-defense classes (I’m not at Black Widow level yet, but that’s the ultimate goal), and participated in two NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) trips for whitewater kayaking in Utah and then coastal sailing in Baja, Mexico.
I love reading (Shakespeare but also super trashy yet delicious YA fantasy and stories with kicka** female protagonists [Tamora Pierce, I’m looking at you]), swimming (ask me about the personal hell that is the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle), and watching Netflix (The 100, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, anything Marvel or DC, Lucifer, Sherlock, Broadchurch, Poldark (okay that’s on Amazon), Game of Thrones (also not Netflix), the list goes on…). I get very attached to things (esp. fictional characters) and like to freak out about them while rolling on the floor. Anyone is welcome to join me or fight me (in a non-violent way, Dragons moderators), whichever you’d prefer.
I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you soon and sharing in this adventure. While it’s not a trip to “the land of Mordor where the shadows lie”, it’s probably the next best thing.
