Trying a prickly `pear for the first time

Today our group had a scavenger hunt on the outskirts of Cochabamba.  There were several things on the list, like “find a liquid that you have never tried before,” “find a man named Francisco,” and “ask someone to tell you how they celebrate carnival,” but one of the most interesting requests was “find a fruit that you have never tried before.” Because most of us are adventurous eaters, it was hard to find something new, but eventually we found some prickly pears on the street and decided to buy them.  We then walked over to the Plaza de Simon Bolivar, washed of our fruits, and ate them one by one while Mayan videoed us on her Canon. They were sweet and watery, and the texture was somewhat like a mushy watermelon with lots of seeds, but everyone liked them and ate them happily in the shade.  It was a good afternoon snack, and I´d definitely have another.
