Why do I have a weird Chinese name?

Hello my name is Matthew Bergman or 白山人 and I am in 10th grade. I am taking Chinese IV and have been taking Chinese since 6th grade. In 6th grade I got my Chinese name, 白山人. When I was asked what I wanted it to be, I said: “Something about mountains”, because I was really into hiking at the time. My hobbies include but are not limited to, fencing, playing video games, astrophysics, and all around technology. My number one goal for the trip is to really improve my Chinese over the trip by attempting to speak and really engage in conversation with my host family. My favorite quote from “Why We Travel” is, “When you go to North Korea, for example, you really do feel as if you’ve landed on a different planet — and the North Koreans doubtless feel that they’re being visited by an extra-terrestrial, too (or else they simply assume that you, as they do, receive orders every morning from the Central Committee on what clothes to wear and what route to use when walking to work, and you, as they do, have loudspeakers in your bedroom broadcasting propaganda every morning at dawn, and you, as they do, have your radios fixed so as to receive only a single channel)” . This is my favorite quote because I don’t know how much of it is the truth, just like news around the world, and mainly because it is pretty funny.
