I’m Isabella Wellman-Webster, I am 18 years old and from Bar Harbor, Maine. I enjoy dancing, practicing yoga, baking, and hanging out with my family. I will be attending St. Lawrence University to pursue neuroscience this upcoming fall. I am very excited to be traveling to Guatemala to explore the similarities and differences of their culture compared to my own.
During Guatemala Studies class, we were introduced to the article “Why We Travel” and were asked to chose a quote that resonates with us; “We live without a past or future, for a moment at least, and are ourselves up for grabs and open to interpretation”. I chose this quote because traveling to a place far away from home automatically reveals a shield we put up to protect our vulnerability. We tend to live our lives by sharing what we HAVE learned, what we are GOING to experience, without taking time to live in the moment. With travel, you are forced to push yourself and experience your surroundings due to being out of your element. This pushes you to be open, and work on yourself through the process of being.
A strength I have is being personable, being able to relate to others, which is super important to me as I learn more about the person and become closer to them. I wish to bring happiness and support to the group, and hope to approach each day with an open mind as we continue to push our comfort zones.
I can’t wait to begin this adventure!
