Hi! My name’s Maggie, I’m 17 and a senior at MDIHS. I love to travel, read and work out. I’m headed to college next fall to study neuroscience at Wheaton College. I’m super excited to go to Guatemala in a few weeks and be surrounded by a different culture and to stay with a local family.
We read an article ‘Why We Travel’ by Pico Iyer in class the other day and were asked to find a quote that speaks to us. The last few lines of the article talk about travel as a sort of love affair. “And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.” I’ve always fallen in love with the places I’ve travelled and this quote perfectly describes that feeling. You’re constantly learning new things and paying more attention to things than you might at home. It’s special and new every time you go somewhere, you fall in love over and over with each place you go.
I hope to bring my work ethic and determination to this program, as well as my passion for travel and my leadership skills. I don’t give up when things get hard, I push through it to the other side, even if I complain a little bit along the way. I love to experience different things and bring an open mind to new situations.
