Hi all! My name is Nicté, I am an indigenous Maya K’iche’ woman, I was born in Totonicapán a department in western Guatemala, when I was 10 years old my family moved to Pachaj, where the Chico Méndes Reforestation Project is. Since 2007 Where There Be Dragons collaborates with the Project, volunteering in the Project and studying Spanish.
I studied Tourism and Business Administration, I took a course to teach Spanish. I worked teaching Spanish to students of Dragons who visited the Chico Mendes project. I worked as a mountain guide since 2009, I love climbing volcanoes and walking in the mountains around Quetzaltenango and Guatemala and on holidays (Nov-Dec) I teach English to children from 7 to 12 years old. I like to dance and play soccer. I am currently living in the Capital of Guatemala and I participate with groups of women who seek the participation of women in Guatemalan society, I am interested in politics, and telecommunications.
Last year I collaborated with Dragones as a Local Guide. I am very excited to meet you and learn together in this trip around my country, as an indigenous woman I am proud to work with Dragons and share with students like you my knowledge about culture I hope to contribute positively in your visit to my country.
A hug, Nicté.
