Travels in Agra, Ladakh, and Delhi

Dear Friends and Family of BYIndia 2018/19,

Please find the below travel schedule for the group’s spring adventures! Note that student phones generally do not work in Ladakh, so be prepared for some interruption in your regular communication schedule with your favorite Bridge Year Student. If you need to contact a member of the BY cohort urgently, please reach out to the Bridge Year Office. In the meantime, we hope you continue to follow the group’s adventures here on the Yak Board!

SPRING TRAVEL SCHEDULE:

  • April 22: Depart Udaipur for Agra (train). Arrive 11:00 am April 23 & check into hotel.
  • April 23-24: Agra. April 23 evening walk around the lanes and byways of Agra, evening kathak dance performance. April 24 early morning (about 6:00 am) visit to the Taj Mahal. Morning tour: theme of Mughal Women. Mughal feast for lunch. Evening departure for Delhi (train). Arrive April 24 night. Check into hotel in Karol Bagh colony, Delhi.
  • April 25: Some need outdoor goods for Leh (Decathlon store), prep for Ladakh
  • April 26-April 28: Leh: Flight to Leh (Go Air Flight 221). April 26 morning. Acclimatization and exploration of the city for two days.
  • April 29-May 3: Sham Trek: an easy homestay trek (lower altitude than Leh), facilitated by guides from the Snow Leopard Conservancy. Focus on wildlife and community conservation initiatives.
  • May 5-12: SECMOL: An amazing week at the Student’s Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh. Special note: Ramadan begins on May 5

  • May 13-14: Potential Nun Visit! Intro to Buddhism theme. Leh.

  • May 15-20: Markha Valley Trek: another village-to-village homestay trek, mostly moderate terrain with one major pass day at the end. Known to Dragons groups, including evacuation routes.

  • May 21-22: Leh: final meetings with guest speakers, NGO visits, cooperatives.

  • May 23-27th: Transference retreat in the beautiful No Mind residence in Likir.
  • May 27: overnight, Leh.
  • May 28-30th: Morning flight to Delhi (Vistara Flight 602). Meet with Fulbright representatives, potential Embassy visit, potential Old Delhi day, last-minute shopping for gifts, final lunch at the Craft Museum.
  • May 30th night/May 31st early am: Depart from Delhi
