After nearly 24 hours in motion we arrived at our first stop, an eco tourism guesthouse in Aritumayu. We could not imagine a more beautiful place to rest after all that travel. It is nestled on a hill over a river, which runs a semi-circle around the property and sends up a steady soft susurration that gives the whole place a sense of deep calm and serenity. The students spent the afternoon resting, laying about on soft grassy spots in the sun, wandering the property, and painting with water colors. There is so much to take in – the natural beauty, the aquaducts rising between the eucalyptus trees across the river, the rose garden, the stars. Spirits are high. The food is fresh and delicious. Their teachers are very proud of how well they managed this taxing day and how much they are already enjoying the country and each other.
