My Introduction

My name’s Emily Patterson and I’m 15 years old. I just finished my freshman year of high school. I live in New York City and go to the Chapin School.

I love to play lacrosse and soccer. I can play the ukelele (poorly) and I’m an active member in the UNICEF club at my school; we mostly do fundraising for groups that support girls’ education. I’ve been learning Spanish since Kindergarten (around 10 years), but my curriculum has only just become focused in the last 4 years.

I love to travel, and my family and I have been doing it since I’ve been very young. I’ve never been to South or Middle America though, so I’m especially excited to be going to Guatemala. I haven’t done any intense hiking trips or trekking, but I love the outdoors and regularly ski and go on nature trails every year in upstate NY.

A song that describes my feelings toward the course is Wavin’ Flag by K’NAAN featuring David Bisbal or El Mismo Sol by Álvaro Soler featuring Jennifer Lopez because they make me excited to travel and instill in me a sense of community with those you’ve never met.

My mom’s grandparents immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands. My family and I visited last summer and Amsterdam is now one of my favorite places in the world.

If I was a plant, I would want to be a honeysuckle flower because they smell great and come in pretty colors. 🙂

I can’t wait to meet you all in 19 days!
