“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves” – Pico Iyer
Greetings Fellow Dragons!
All of us have chosen to travel this summer – and not in the usual way of hotels, swimming pools, and western meals, but we have all chosen to step off the map and have a rugged and immersive experience, traveling close to the ground to truly learn how other people live and see the world.
“Though it’s fashionable nowadays to draw a distinction between the “tourist” and the “traveler,” perhaps the real distinction lies between those who leave their assumptions at home, and those who don’t.”
In the final weeks leading up to our Cambodian adventure, we would love for you all to pause and reflect on the following:
After reading Why We Travel, reflect on the question of why YOU travel. Why did you really make the decision to come to Cambodia this summer? What is it that your soul is yearning for with this journey? What steps can you take yourself to ensure that you achieve your goals and get everything you want out of this experience?
Please come prepared to share your thoughts – maybe you want to choose a passage from the article that stuck with you and discuss why it did, or write a story or poem, or just freestyle on the prompt and see what comes out.
We hope you enjoy reflecting on this important question – we can’t wait to discuss it with you when we meet in just a couple weeks!
In anticipation and gratitude,
Your Cambodia Instructor Team
