The Golden Rule

  1. Today we met our Where There Be Dragons instructors, Mark and Ming. After a fun day of introductions after a plane ride we all had dinner together. Mark and Ming were very kind and showed us how we could be culturally aware and practice the dinner customs of the Chinese people. One of the customs that I enjoy most is the serving of others around you at the table. This custom is most important at the beginning of the meal to show respect to elders by serving them first. However this custom is also used throughout the meal for everyone around you. I quite enjoyed this because it is the embodiment of the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have done onto you. This custom not only shows respect but also brings joy to the person showing respect.
