This is Caitlin checking from Urubamba, our last location before we head home. We recently returned back from our trek in Ausangate. This was definitely the hardest hiking/backpacking experience I’ve done due to the altitude and difficulty of a couple of the hikes. Although it was hard to breathe and the air was numbingly cold, I had the most amazing time hiking in the shadow of this incredible mountain.
Some of the highlights for me included the hot springs which felt amazing and rejuvenating for our sore muscles, the sheer beauty of the landscape – it was truely like nothing I have ever seen before, attempting some gourmet cooking with a small stove and a handful of spices, making an offering to the spirit of Ausangate with our guides the Kondori brothers, and challenging myself to hike up to 16 thousand feet despite my mild altitude sickness.
