And in a blink of an eye, our time with the community at Nuevo horizonte has come to a close. Our 6 days here have been full of new learning, fresh tortillas, and shared stories with community members. Students have been taking daily Spanish classes (4 hours a day), playing in afternoon soccer games, and even occasionally milking cows!
For us instructors, it has been very rewarding to see students gaining confidence in their independence and Spanish skills – our daily lunch en español gets better everyday!
It is now time to make our way South towards the Caribbean coast to the beautiful region of Rio Dulce. Under the shade of the dense jungle canopy, we will work with our friends at Ak tenamit, learning about youth female empowerment and tools for education in rural areas of Guatemala.
Stay tuned, more updates and photos to come!
