We’ve finally left the big cities behind and are spending the next few days in Ait Bougamez, or the happy valley as it is often called. The valley sits in the middle of the high Atlas Mountains, and is mainly populated by farmers. People grow apples, walnuts, almonds, potatoes, barley, and also raise goats and sheep’s, cows, chickens, and rabbits.
The valley is beautiful and quiet, and we’re excited to be here enjoying the weather and the nature. Yesterday students began their second Homestays here, and they’re having a pretty new experience compared to their time in the urban space of Azrou. Hopefully they’ll take home some new skills (cow milking? Bread making? Animal feeding? Wheat harvesting?) and some new wisdom about living differently.
