Surrounded by the striking mountains at 13,500 ft, the community of Paru Paru are deeply tethered to the different aspects of their environment. The people have given names and spirits to the mountains around them, and the community often performs ceremonies or thanks to the mountains. Before performing any agricultural activities, the mountains are praised. Pristine lakes are often found within the valleys of these large peaks. The community uses these important bodies of water for trout farms, bathing, water, and much more. The abundance of animals allow the people to use them for textiles, food, and work purposes. Through using their environment well and respectfully, the community of Paru Paru sets an inspiring example for the cities and communities of the USA.
