Hey everyone, my name is Wes and I am from Berwyn, Pennsylvania!  I’m incredibly excited to meet everyone and begin our journey together in SE Asia.  After the gap year I will be heading to Davidson College in North Carolina. Yes, that is where Steph Curry went and no, that is not why I chose to go there! I have many hobbies, some of which are films (watching and making), drawing, traveling, and playing basketball and soccer. I am 18 years old and graduated from a small high school this past spring.   I would say I’m a lively and adventurous person, I don’t enjoy sitting on the beach and reading a book, I’d much rather be up and about looking for new places to explore.

I am excited to participate in the many homestays the trip will incorporate. Based on past experiences, I have always found myself most intrigued by meeting new people of different cultures. Ironically enough, I am not looking forward to the language part of the trip. I have always been horrible with languages, Spanish in particular, but I am willing to make a fool of myself for the sake of trying.

After our program is over, my friend Nick, who will also be apart of our trip, and I will be continuing our journey into Vietnam and then parts of Europe. The thought of being away from home for the next eight months is partly terrifying, but also incredibly intriguing. I hope to learn about the lives and cultures of as many locals as possible from each country and town we visit. I hope to learn to be more independent and build the confidence within myself to live and explore on my own. I hope to learn to take life less seriously!

This past summer I have been babysitting two awesome little boys. While I have loved my time with them both, I am happy the summer is ending and our trip is beginning.  I get along with pretty much anyone, so I look forward to meeting you all in just a few weeks.
