Hey guys! My name is Brit, and I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and to starting our exciting journey! Although I grew up in NC, I spent the last four years at a boarding school in MA. Next year, I’ll be studying at Kenyon College, but I’m not sure what I will be studying.

A few of my interests and hobbies are travelling (obviously!), meeting new people, canoe tripping, cooking, and reading. This summer, despite my not drinking coffee, I have been working at a coffee shop on Cape Cod. I have also been babysitting in my spare time. Until we depart, I will be hanging out at home with my friends and family.

I have been fortunate enough to have travelled in some parts of the world, but I have not had the chance to explore Southeast Asia—especially in the way that we will be immersing ourselves in the communities and culture. Also, at school this year, I studied some of the conflicts in this region, and after learning so much about the history, I’m excited to see this part of the world first hand. I am also looking forward to the homestays because I think they will provide a more nuanced understanding of the different Southeast Asian cultures. Finally, I’m excited to learn about the history of each area we visit from the perspective of the locals—not just from a text book!

Hope all of y’all have a great rest of your summer!
