Hi everyone! My name is Eugenia, and I’m from Hong Kong. I’ve lived here my whole life, but I’ll be heading to the U.S. to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall of 2020. Taking a gap year wasn’t something I originally intended to do, but now that I am, I’m super excited to depart from the conventional means of learning and experience the real world.
What attracted me most about this program was the balance between action and introspection. I’ve run cross country and played netball for several years, but I’ve never trekked the Himalayas; I’ve occasionally meditated and done yoga, but have never considered embarking on a religious retreat. I’m a pretty proactive person, so as someone who’s often caught up in the nature of hustle, I’m excited to slow down and get to know people from different walks of life while also understanding myself a bit better.
After Nepal, I intend to complete a field position as either an environmental volunteer in Brazil or teaching assistant in Costa Rica through an organization called Omprakash (would highly recommend anyone who’s still planning their gap year to look into it!). Then, I’ll be backpacking the East Coast of Australia with a friend from high school.
Some things I love include meeting new people, spending time with friends, listening to podcasts, doing apartment-friendly workouts, travelling the world, and scouting for vegan food. While it still baffles me every time I read this line on your intros, I can’t wait to embark on this journey, and see you all in a few weeks!
