Hey everyone! I’m Elliott and I come from Los Angeles, California. I couldn’t imagine myself in any other place than the West Coast and these past 18 years have been so fun. With my parents, younger brother, and my little Yorkie, I have experienced so much from the beaches of Malibu to the celebrity presence of Hollywood. While LA was diverse and came with many different cultures and world views, I know it’s time to leave the bubble and experience a new set of values, customs, and traditions.
Like many of the other participants, I am passionate about politics as I believe it is important to be civically engaged. With two other students, I led a voter registration drive and won a district-wide contest with the most voters registered. Because of these efforts, Mayor Eric Garcetti came to speak and Billie Eilish held a concert for our school. I hope to channel my energy and pursue projects that can support the local community. Right now, I’m split between majoring in public policy via Woodrow Wilson or majoring in anthropology, but I hope my time in Indonesia will help bring clarity.
It can’t be an introduction without me revealing my interests. My taste in film is pretty eclectic. My favorite movies (that I can definitely speak about for at least an hour) include The Godfather, The Devil Wears Prada, A Star Is Born, Roma, and 10 Things I Hate About You. I also love (trashy) reality TV shows like Love Island (UK), Bachelor in Paradise, and Are You the One. Music is much more straightforward for me as I am painfully unaware of older tunes and tend to listen to artists with a lot of soul like Sza, Bryson Tiller, and Jorja Smith. When I’m not idly binge-watching shows on Netflix or re-reading The Lord of the Rings, I love to go to the beach with my friends, walk my dog on various hiking trails, and eating different foods.
I hope everyone has successfully packed and is ready to go. I am so excited to meet everyone and can’t wait to make unforgettable memories!
