Introduction Berta

Dear students!

My name is Berta, and I am the third musqueteer on your Instructor team for the first 6 weeks of your time in Senegal. We will meet, inchallah, the moment you step out of the airport into the Senegalese sun on the afternoon of the 29th of August!

Some exciting things still have to happen before that date, for you as you leave your families and meet the Bridge Year group in Princeton; and for me as well: as I am writing this, I am sitting in a motel in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave by the Baltic sea, where I am attending a congress with my parents. During the next two weeks I will travel through Poland to Austria, my countries of origin, and from there take a plane back to Senegal, my chosen home country.

I have been living in Senegal for the past eight years, and I don’t even want to tell you too much about it now because I will actually take you to „my“ places there very soon! 🙂

This is going to be my forth september spent on the road with Bridge Year students, and the fun has been greater every year, so I have high hopes for our time together – just so you know! 😉

I am curious about all of you – why (or if) you chose Senegal, what drives you in life, what your expectations are, etc. etc. I am sure we won’t lack topics of conversation. You will see that the intensity with which we will live and experience things together will bring as all close very quickly. Diving into a new culture requires a lot of humility, and as much courage; a good balance of crazyness and reason; and, maybe most of all, to hold on to Love of ourselves and of others as wind in the sails of our boat steering into the unknown.

With Love, and joyful anticipation

Berta
