Namaste! The three of us have spent the day exploring the city through a scavenger hunt which included visiting temples, eating dhal bhat and talking to locals. We had the chance to meet a sauji (a Nepali shopkeeper) outside of his ‘Peacock Shop.’ He welcomed us into his workshop and home where we learned about his papermaking studio. Ramnarayan uses pulp mixed in water and sifts it through a screen to create paper. We were also fortunate enough to see his meditation room which held some of his 15th century wood carvings that depicted 50 of the Buddha’s stories. We are so excited to be here in Nepal and to share this story from a generous shopkeeper’s personal laptop!
