Hi! My name is Sofie Lasko and I’m from the Chicago area. The best part of where I live is being only a mile away from Lake Michigan. It makes for lots of good hammock time in parks next to the beach and dog walks along the shore.
This is not actually my first Dragons trip! For my 2017 summer, I went to the West Bengal and Sikkim states in India. That opportunity and the people I met there helped me to form my outlook on life, understanding what makes me happy and what I find most valuable. My homestay parents are still my number one fans on Facebook 🙂
To get to know me a little better, here’s a list of things that make me really happy:
-hot cups of sugary tea
-that light headed feeling after a run
-cooking a boatload of veggies
-dancing with friends (no skill necessary)
-finding out there are bats living near my Dad’s garden after I convinced him to add pollinator friendly plants
Accordingly, here’s a list of things that make me less happy (but not totally unhappy):
-the sound of cardboard scratching against more cardboard
-Midwestern 5 month winters
-pessimistic news stories :/
My goals for this coming year are to return home close to fluent in Spanish and with lasting connections in one or two places in the Spanish speaking world. I’m planning to spend the rest of my gap year living in South America and I’ll be returning to Bolivia in January until at least March. Beyond that, I hope to create a community in a new place that excites me after gaining regional and cultural knowledge from this trip!
I’m so excited to meet you all! Nos vemos pronto,
PS- pack an extra stuff sack or plastic bag for your dirty clothes so they don’t have to intermingle with the clean
