I hope you all are doing well, I’m excited to meet you guys! I’m Jacob, from Greenwich, CT! I’m really looking forward to the program, especially the trekking and homestay parts: I’ve never camped outside before, and I’m looking forward to getting that experience, as well as learning what it’s like to live day-to-date as a Nepali citizen. I’m also looking forward to learning more about Buddhism. Although half of my family is Thai Buddhist, we’ve never been super-religious, so I’m excited to learn about the philosophy behind it.
I went to a boarding school near Boston and got really into distance running. In 2018, I got injured and ended up trying cycling instead, and loved it: I think I’m gong to cycle on my college’s club team, too! I also got super into astronomy and astronomy research. Probably the coolest thing I ever did in high school was take data for the KELT exoplanet survey, which tries to find planets orbiting other stars, using our school’s own telescope and camera.
During my gap year, I’ve been trying to read more books and travel a lot more. So far, my favorite book has been “The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway, which is about EH’s travels across Europe. So far I’ve visited Paris, London, Rome, Florence, many different places in Greece, and Switzerland!
In Sep 2020, I’ll start at Harvard College and hope to concentrate in Astrophysics.
I can’t wait to meet you all!
