Salam! The end of our time in Azrou was bittersweet. On Sunday, the group hosted a party to express their gratitude to all of the homestay families who generously hosted them. The group sung a song for their families and each family took turns sharing about their experience hosting each student and all of the reasons why they enjoyed it. There were hugs and tears as we said goodbye this morning and boarded a bus heading into the next phase of our journey together. While sad to be leaving our new friends and families behind in Azrou, we’re all carrying this first homestay experience with us and are excited to move into the next part of our journey… the trek!
After a long day of travel, we finally arrived in Bougamez – the location for the start of our trek! We are spending the night at a guesthouse owned by a friend of Dragon’s who we have worked with many times before, situated in the Middle-High Atlas mountains. We are preparing to head out tomorrow morning for the start of a 5 day trek! Beginning in Bougamez, we will trek through the M’goun gorge and end up Q’laat Mgouna.
Due to a minor foot injury (which is healing well), Eliza will be staying back in Azrou with her host family, one of our instructors (Badr), and our support staff in Azrou. While we are bummed to not be on trek with Eliza and Badr, we are excited to share experiences and learn about Eliza’s continued opportunities at the artisan craft center and other adventures. We’ll be sure to fill all you readers in as well!
During our trek, the group will be unable to post yaks and will not have access to individual communication home. The instructor team will be communicating regularly with Dragon’s administration and our program director through a satellite phone device. As a group, we will be sure to check in as soon as we arrive in Q’laat Mgouna.
Wishing all of our readers well and sending greetings from Azrou and Bougamez!
