Hi all – after quite an incredible few days in the salt flats and desert in Uyuni we are back in the big city of La Paz. After arriving here this morning, we had a nice relaxing afternoon learning more about coca leaves and the history, production, and importance of this medicinal plant here in Bolivia. Along the way we were enamored with all of the incredible street art of La Paz, and came across the organization of Mujeres Creando. One of the leaders there gave us a chat about the work they are doing to raise awareness around feminism and women’s rights in Bolivia – and we started to notice the radical and beautiful graffiti art that is found all over the city by Mujeres Creando. We are now settled into our hostel for the evening, and the students are enjoying some down time with a “movie night.”
We know there has been a lot of itinerary changes this last week – but now we are right back on schedule. We will stay here in the La Paz until this Sunday, where we will then be heading to Cusco, Peru. On Monday we will have time in Cusco to explore the city a bit – and more importantly time to trek prep. The following day we will be starting our 6 day trek in Ausangate. The group has been looking forward to this trek since day 1 – and we are super stoked to get back into trekking while in Peru.
Of course, we are continuing to monitor the political situation here and are making the safest decisions possible for the group. The neighborhood we are staying in is very calm and away from the city center – and we are ensuring that we are taking extra precaution during our time here.
