Hello friends and family!

The group just spent an amazing weekend in La Paz after finishing up their homestay in Tiquipaya. While the group was waiting for the right moment to make the trip, instructors were so impressed by the students’ ability to organize their own lessons and activities during their last days in Tiquipaya. They have grown so much and are becoming more independent each week.

This weekend was Todos Santos, a celebration to honor past family members and friends. The protests that have highlighted Bolivian news this past week were mostly silent as families came together for the celebrations and political differences were cast aside. This past weekend in the city the students continued to prepare for the next leg of their journey and learned about this rich cultural tradition.

The group is again on the move to the Afro-Bolivian community of Tocaña. There, they will take part in another homestay in instructor Sandy’s home community. This is a relaxed rural community in the cloud forest region and far from the interruptions of political events. The group had previously planned to visit Tocaña but they have just moved it up slightly in the itinerary.

Please be in touch if you have any questions.

All the best,

Dave Haffeman, Program Director
