After packing and going to bed early on the 27th, we woke up even earlier the next morning to catch a train from Taipei to Taitung. During the five hour train ride, we napped, snacked on delicious breakfast rolls from the hotel, and enjoyed the view from the windows as we moved from one end of Taiwan to the other. After we arrived in Taitung, we were picked up and driven to the site of the village we stayed at for the next few days. We were able to to be a part of a small ceremony blessing us and wishing us luck and happiness with our new host families in the community: performed by a village chief. We joined them for a late lunch of sticky rice, soup, and eggs, and got to spend some time with some of the teenagers and kids; we sang songs with them while they played guitar! Then we were driven across the village to each of our houses to meet our new host families where we hung out for a few hours before returning to a chiefs house for dinner and dancing!
