Today was our first full day in Taiwan. After breakfast and a late start, we started off by taking a bus to the Beitou sulfur springs where we explored the remains of a sulfur excitation site. While sulfur’s smell of rotten eggs was rather unpleasant, we enjoyed a very pleasant mile long hike through the springs until we got to the spring, containing water as hot as 90C. After exploring, we walked to the Beitou Hot Spring Museum where we learned about the springs history and enjoyed sitting on bamboo mats in the Tatami lounge. After a not so quick stop at Starbucks and a train ride we ate lunch at an all you can eat restaurant featuring a variety of foods and deserts. After our late lunch we did our final bit of site seeing by exploring the Chaing Kai-shek Memorial Hall, where we got to witness the Changing of the Guard and the lowering of the Tawian flag as the sun set. We concluded with a quick dinner at the hotel and plenty of time for reflection.
