So much has happened since we landed that it feels like I’ve been here a lot longer than just 10 days. We’ve watched the sunrise from the mountains, been shopping in central Jogja, and each become a part of a new family. My new family has been amazing when it comes to my vegetarian diet and my complete inability to handle spicy food. I still get to try new foods without burning my mouth or filling up on water. Ibu (mom) is helping me learn Bahasa Indonesia asked me to play some piano for them. I got to try an Indonesian dessert called putu, made from red sugar, powdered rice, and coconut. it was enak sekali (really delicious)! I’m still getting used to the weather, but everyone here bathes twice a day so I don’t feel as gross as I could be.
