Hi everyone, I’m Bailey! I can’t wait to meet you all and start our adventure together! I am eager to learn more about my relationship with water as I love the outdoors and am constantly reexamining my relationship with nature. I am an avid skier, backpacker, fly-fisherman (hoping to bring my lightweight rod), runner, occasional writer, and standup comedy fanatic. Although this trip wasn’t originally in my plan for fall, it fits perfectly in with my interests and needs for the future. I am looking forward to unplugging and getting to know everyone, breaking my current social isolation. On the itinerary, I’m really looking forward to the river trip and all of our expeditions. Through taking a break to get outside and learn in a new way, I hope to learn more about myself going forward into life beyond high school. Although I am a Colorado native, I have done very little along the Colorado or the western slope and I am excited to learn how to camp in the desert and where my front range water comes from.
My favorite “poem” is the ending of Norman Maclean’s A River Runs Through It:
“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters.”
See you soon!
