I watched Patagonia’s “Public Trust” documentary recently, and it really stunned me that our elected officials are open to selling out to big mining companies to the detriment of our public lands, especially a national monument like Bears Ears. I can’t wait to get to see it for myself, but what I’m wondering at the moment is, how is it even possible for the lands that are supposed to be owned by “the citizens of the U.S.” to be lobbied over by big mining corporations without any consultation of the people? And if it is possible and legal, then that means that our political system is in a very bad state right now.
