Group Update: Boots to Paddles

We just completed a rewarding overnight backpacking trip in Big Bend National Park, completing a loop around the canyon. We experienced many different microbiomes, all the varied terrain of the park, as well as stunning vistas of the Rio Grande, the Chisos mountains, and Mexico stretching out in the distance. Everyone in the group expressed pride and satisfaction at having completed the hike, and we feel even more bonded as a group.

Today we depart with our guides on a four-day canoe trip of the Rio Grande itself through the canyons of the national park where we will take in this stunning scenery from a totally different vantage point, learn more about the river, and camp and relax each night on the riverbanks.

Following our river trip we will depart Big Bend National park and head 5 hours west to El Paso where we will be camping at a small family farm outside the city for a week and meeting with local environmentalists and immigration advocates as well as just experiencing more of the beautiful stories and scenery of the region. We will check back in again in El Paso! Stay tuned!
