Focus of Inquiry and Course Themes

Here’s your instructor team, hanging out in the beautiful coastal town of Thies, planning our upcoming adventure!

We have been talking a lot about the threads that run through our course, and how we can pull them together into a coherent theme that will run throughout our journey. As we talked through our itinerary and all the learning opportunities that present themselves on the way, these are the themes that kept coming up:

Spirituality, community resilience, and the re-invention of traditions.

As with all meaningful learning, our course will start with looking inwards at the self. What power and inner resilience do we draw from our spitiual connection to ourselves? Then we will look at how this manifests into the strength found within family and community, and how this ties into beliefs about our ancestors who have come before us. And finally, we will link this to the idea of how the stories that weave together self and community are fluid and changing, and how we can all play a role in the of re-invention of tradition. Indeed our group itself will be a community, and we all have a role to play in shaping our collective story.

We are so excited to have the chance to meet with you all in a few short days. Remember to introduce yourself on this yak board, to complete the pre-course task, and to reach out to us here or individually with any questions that you have.

With anticipation,

Samba, Babacar and Claire
