Over the past few weeks we have done a lot of walking. We have walked from elevations as low as 1100m and as high as 5000m. Walking is the most basic form of human transportation and there is something so unique about only relying on our own legs to......Read More

Mountains: beauty and power

The most memorable part of the trek so far has been the day hike from Na when we made it to 5000 meters. Each step up the mountain the air got thinner, but we were motivated by the fact that each step brought us closer to the view of a lifetime of......Read More

This silence

Benjamin Felser, Participant

Written at Tso Rolpa, high altitude lake. The sound of silence pervades the valley. It’s echoes drown out the distant hum of wind, the soft rasping scuffle of feet on rock. It is mirrored in those tiny ripples drifting across the lake’s......Read More

Picture of the Week

What started out as a simple day hike turned into something dramatically different and better. After waking up at 4:45, walking for a half hour to the Dragons program house, and taking a 1:15 minute bus ride up a bumpy and winding road, we started our hike. It was about 8:00 and we were were at 14,000 feet in elevation. The plan was to make it to the summit before 11:30, have lunch, before returning back to our van around 2. We slowly made our way up the mountain range, passing lakes, climbing ridges, and seeing incredibly beautiful scenery. We… Read More

Why Do We Trek?

Molly Ames, Participant

We trek to perceive the world. Not the places where planes can fly us or buses can transport us. But to discover the finest details and patterns, and the destinations to which only our legs can carry us. We trek to experience the Cordillera Real and......Read More

I enjoy hiking. I love seeing the breath-taking view from the top of a mountain. I usually remember the views more than the struggle it takes to get there. But that wasn’t the case during our three-day trek from Sin Leh Village to Nyaung Shwe,......Read More
